Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. The tool runs inside your browser, so your files never leave your device and nobody else can see them.
How do I compress an image to 50 KB or 100 KB?
Choose 'Target size' and type the size. We try different quality levels and keep the best one that fits. If the image can't get that small at a reasonable quality, we also make its width and height smaller, unless you turn that off.
Will my photo lose quality?
At the default quality of 75 most people can't tell the difference, and photos usually get much smaller. JPG files use MozJPEG, which makes smaller files than a normal browser save at the same quality. If an image is already well compressed and we can't make it smaller, you get your original file back unchanged.
How are PNG files made smaller?
By default PNG images are reduced to 256 carefully chosen colours, the same idea TinyPNG uses, with dithering so gradients stay smooth, and then packed with OxiPNG. Transparency is kept. If keeping every colour happens to give a smaller file, you get that instead. Choose 'Lossless' to keep every colour, or change the format to WebP for photos saved as PNG.
Is the photo's hidden data kept?
No. Compressed images are saved fresh, so GPS location, camera details and other hidden data are left out, which also saves space. Photos still open the right way up. If we hand back your original because it was already small, it is untouched.
Is there a size limit?
Up to 50 images at once and 50 MB per file. Very large images (over 100 megapixels, or 60 on iPhone and iPad) are refused with a clear message so your browser doesn't run out of memory.
