Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type or open is uploaded, logged or saved. Your settings are remembered on this device; your text isn't.
How are words and characters counted?
Words are found with your browser's language-aware word breaker, so hyphenated words, numbers and non-Latin scripts count properly. Characters count what you see, so an emoji or an accented letter counts as one.
How is reading time worked out?
At 238 words a minute for reading and 150 for speaking aloud, which are typical averages for adults reading English.
