Questions
Are my audio and video files uploaded?
No. The file is decoded and processed by your browser, so the sound never leaves your device.
Does converting to WAV improve quality?
No. WAV stores the sound exactly as decoded, so it's a lossless copy of what's in your file, not better than it. It's useful because almost every editor, DAW and transcription tool opens WAV.
Why does it say my video has no sound?
Either the video has no audio track (screen recordings often don't), or it uses an audio codec your browser can't decode. MP4 and MOV with AAC audio, and WebM with Opus or Vorbis, work in current browsers.
Which formats work?
Whatever your browser can play: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC work in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Files are saved as WAV, which every editor and player opens, because browsers can't write MP3. WAV, FLAC and MP3 keep their sample rate; other formats are read at 48 kHz. Files up to 30 minutes work here.
